Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) said on Tuesday that advanced works are underway on an AED872 million ($237 million) road project connecting Ramhan and Jubail Islands to the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12).
The development covers 166,000 square meters and includes seven bridges, three tunnels and a network of ramps, roads and utility corridors, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said. It is expected to be completed in 2027.

“This sophisticated construction project represents an important part of Abu Dhabi’s evolving transportation network, facilitating access to Ramhan and Jubail Islands while unlocking new development zones and economic opportunities,” said Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, director general of infrastructure development at the DMT.
About 90% of the project’s construction waste, or more than 2,200 metric tons, will be recycled, and the roads will use LED lighting, the department said.
Both islands are being developed as residential and leisure communities. Eagle Hills is building Ramhan Island, a 400-hectare project planned to include about 1,800 villas, 900 marina residences, a hotel and a retail promenade, The National reported. Jubail Island is a 4,000-hectare waterfront community developed by Lead Development.
