Oman’s Keryas Paper and Al Karama Hypermarket Plan $12 Million Tissue Mill in Sohar

Oman-based Keryas Paper Industry and retailer Al Karama Hypermarket Group plan to build a tissue manufacturing plant with capacity of 20,000 tonnes a year at Sohar Industrial City, with a proposed investment of about $12 million, the companies said.

The two signed a memorandum of understanding at the ProPaper 2026 exhibition in Dubai, according to the Oman Observer.

The plant will be developed through a joint venture, Sohar Paper Products, owned by the two companies. It will be located in Phase 7 of Sohar Industrial City.

Keryas operates a kraft paper mill with capacity of 150,000 tonnes a year. Al Karama runs 15 hypermarkets across Oman.

The companies expect commercial operations to start by the end of 2027. They said the project would be the first of its kind in this segment in Oman.

The plant will use tissue machinery and technology from Taiwan. India’s C2C Consultancy will handle engineering and design.

“This diversification represents an important step in expanding our product portfolio and customer base,” said Mohammed Omer Ali Al Hosni, chief executive officer of Keryas Group.

Abdul Nasser, managing director of Al Karama Group, said the partners were confident of completing the project on schedule despite challenges facing industries across the Gulf from ongoing geopolitical tensions.
