Oman Drives Digital Transformation with Major Tech Initiatives

Oman is driving innovation and economic diversification through major digital transformation initiatives, showing a clear vision for the future. At COMEX 2025, the Sultanate unveiled projects that strengthen its technology ecosystem and digital economy. These digital transformation initiatives position Oman as a regional hub for AI, advanced technologies, and innovation.

The event opened under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said. It took place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. Furthermore, Al Dar Al Arabiya for Data Analysis organized COMEX 2025 with strong support from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MoTCIT). The exhibition attracted over 140 startups, 200 companies, and multiple international delegations, creating networking and investment opportunities.

Key initiatives launched included the Digital Triangle project, a specialized artificial intelligence zone, and the Green AI Alliance. These initiatives connect government agencies, private enterprises, and academic institutions. In addition, Oman signed agreements worth $109 million, showing strong investor confidence in its digital economy.

MoTCIT Under-Secretary Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shaithani revealed Oman’s first AI language model, “Maeen.” This tool will enhance government efficiency and digital sovereignty. Moreover, 30 new services were added to the Unified Digital Services Portal. Advanced tools, including a mobile app and smart assistant, also launched to improve public engagement.

Dr. Al Shaithani emphasized that AI and emerging technologies remain central to Oman’s National Programme for the Digital Economy. Consequently, digital transformation initiatives play a key role in linking e-commerce, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and innovation. As a result, Oman expects the digital economy to contribute around 10 percent of GDP by 2040.

Additionally, Oman is advancing in semiconductors, data centers, AI, and the space industry. The country also supports small and medium enterprises. Recently, Oman completed its first space rocket experiment, the “Duqm-1” mission, with 80 percent of the workforce being Omani nationals.

COMEX 2025, now in its 34th edition, demonstrates Oman’s determination to attract global investment. Overall, these digital transformation initiatives enhance competitiveness and position the country as a regional leader in AI, technology, and space exploration.
