Oman’s Nama Electricity Distribution to Invest More Than OMR600 Million in Its Grid Through 2029

Nama Electricity Distribution is pressing ahead with an investment plan of more than OMR600 million from 2026 to 2029 to expand and strengthen Oman’s electricity distribution network, a senior executive said.

The spending will go toward upgrading infrastructure and preparing the grid for future growth in power demand, Khalfan Nasser Al Bartamani, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, told the official Oman News Agency on Sunday.

Nama operates and maintains a distribution network of more than 105,000 kilometers across Oman’s governorates, except Dhofar, Al Bartamani said.

Smart meters covered about 80% of the network by the end of 2025, he said. The company describes the smart meter program as one of its main projects in the shift to a digital grid.

The company now plans to move from digitizing its network to making more use of the data it collects, Al Bartamani said. That includes linking smart meters with geographic information systems, remote monitoring and control systems, and advanced distribution management software.

Nama also plans to expand its use of big data, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to monitor the health of its assets and support predictive maintenance, he said.

The company has introduced an outage management system that connects its call center with emergency crews to speed up repairs, he added.
