Oman ports’ performance continues to improve as the country pushes forward with infrastructure upgrades and strategic investments. The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology confirmed that container handling, cargo movement, and ship arrivals all recorded double-digit increases. These results underline the success of Oman’s efforts to strengthen logistics capabilities in line with Vision 2040.
Between January and June, Oman ports handled more than 2.4 million containers. This represented an 11.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Officials credited this growth to improved logistics efficiency and expanded capacity at Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm. This rise highlights the ability of Oman ports performance to keep pace with rising regional and global demand.
Moreover, ship traffic also increased significantly during the first six months. The total number of vessels received by Omani ports reached 6,586. This marked growth from 5,930 ships in the previous year. Sultan Qaboos Port, Shinas, and Salalah made notable contributions. Their performance further emphasizes the resilience and expanding role of Oman’s maritime sector.
Cargo volumes also demonstrated healthy growth during this period. Omani ports managed 70.1 million tons of goods, up from 66.6 million tons. This translated into a 5.2 percent annual increase. The ports also received more than 50,000 vehicles, while livestock imports exceeded 2.6 million heads. These numbers highlight the efficiency and diversity of Oman’s maritime operations.
In addition, several long-term infrastructure projects are moving forward. The government awarded a consultancy contract for the Khor Jarama development project. This project aims to strengthen maritime utilization and enhance site readiness. Another consultancy contract covers upgrades at Shannah and Masirah ports. These upgrades include rehabilitation of docks, breakwaters, and access bridges. The study and planning phase will take eight months.
Furthermore, new investments are expanding port services. At Shinas Port, the operator Quadrilateral Marine Solutions and Systems signed an agreement to establish a fuel processing and storage center. This project will expand service capabilities and boost commercial activity. Such initiatives add momentum to Oman ports’ performance, reinforcing the nation’s status as a regional logistics hub.
Oman aims to cement its global maritime role. By combining infrastructure improvements with new investment, the government seeks to increase competitiveness. These steps ensure Oman remains a reliable logistics center while supporting the wider goals of Vision 2040.
