The Waste Recycling and Treatment Department processes all collected waste. Workers convert organic waste, including tree trimmings and green materials, into compost for agriculture. The Ministry also launched a pilot project to install underground waste containers in busy Doha areas. Residents deposit waste in hidden containers, and collection vehicles empty them at night. Qatar’s central waste treatment facility processes 2,300 tonnes of household waste daily. Staff separate materials into compostable, recyclable, and energy-producing streams. The facility generates 50 megawatts of electricity daily for the national grid.
