QatarEnergy Extends Force Majeure on LNG Cargoes to Italy’s Edison Until End of December

QatarEnergy has extended force majeure on liquefied natural gas deliveries to Italy’s Edison until the end of December, the Italian company said on Tuesday.

Edison, a unit of France’s EDF, said it received a new force majeure notification from the state-owned Qatari producer. The notice covers cargoes scheduled for delivery at the Adriatic LNG terminal in Italy.

The previous notice, issued in late September, covered deliveries through the beginning of December.

Italian energy news service Quotidiano Energia reported that three more cargoes had been canceled under the latest notice. That would bring the total affected under the disruption to 38, it said. Edison had put the figure at 35 cargoes after the September extension.

Edison buys Qatari LNG under a 25-year contract signed in 2009 for 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

QatarEnergy has issued repeated force majeure notices to buyers since attacks in March damaged LNG facilities at Ras Laffan and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted. Reuters also reported the latest extension.
