The Iraq oil and gas investment opportunities are moving forward as Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani welcomed senior officials from the U.S. energy firm Morgan Hughes. The delegation, led by Vice President Gregory Bloom, held high-level talks in Baghdad. The meeting included Chargé d’Affaires Steven Fagin from the U.S. Embassy, reflecting growing international interest in Iraq’s energy sector.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s strategy to fully utilize all associated gas produced from its oil fields. He explained that this goal aligns with Iraq’s broader energy transition and environmental commitments. The Iraq oil and gas investment plans, he noted, must deliver benefits beyond infrastructure by creating jobs and strengthening local industries.
The Prime Minister underscored that future oil contracts should prioritize employment for Iraqi citizens. He also insisted that secondary contracts should involve local private sector companies. These measures aim to ensure Iraq’s energy development directly supports the national economy.
Furthermore, Al-Sudani highlighted the importance of training Iraqi engineers and technicians. He said partnerships with international companies should focus on transferring advanced technologies.
