UAE Doctors Warn About Heat and Poor Sleep

Experts recommend that adults sleep at least seven hours each night. However, many UAE residents either sleep too little or experience poor-quality sleep despite spending enough time in bed.

Summer conditions in the UAE continue worsening the issue. High heat and humidity reduce the body’s ability to cool naturally before bedtime. Consequently, sleep quality often declines during warmer months.

Specialists also warn that poor sleep may affect emotional wellbeing. Sleep disruption can increase stress, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty focusing during daily activities.

At the same time, doctors recommend several simple ways to improve sleep quality. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule remains one of the most effective habits. In addition, keeping bedrooms cool and dark may help support deeper sleep.

Health experts suggest setting bedroom temperatures between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius. They also recommend breathable bedding and advise residents to avoid direct air conditioning airflow while sleeping.

Experts further encourage residents to reduce screen time before bed. Avoiding caffeine, nicotine, and heavy meals late at night may also improve sleep quality and support healthier rest patterns.

Hydration also remains important during hot weather. However, doctors recommend drinking water steadily during the day while avoiding excessive fluids shortly before bedtime.

Mental relaxation techniques may also support better sleep. Specialists recommend mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques, and calming routines to reduce stress during sleepless nights.

Meanwhile, sleep experts advise residents not to panic over occasional sleep difficulties. Instead, maintaining healthy habits and calm routines often helps the body recover naturally over time.
