Qatar Airways will launch direct flights between Doha’s Hamad International Airport and Western Sydney International Airport on December 15, 2027, the airline said on Tuesday, adding a seventh Australian gateway to its network.
The route will open with three flights a week on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft carrying 42 Business Class and 312 Economy Class seats. Tickets go on sale on December 19, 2026, and the airline said it intends to increase the service gradually to daily operations.

Western Sydney joins Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra on the Qatar Airways network in Australia.
Flight QR906 will leave Doha at 1:40 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and arrive in Western Sydney at 11:45 p.m. The return flight, QR907, will depart Western Sydney at 4:10 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and land in Doha at 11 p.m.
“The new route will link Western Sydney directly with Doha and, through Hamad International Airport, with more than 170 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and beyond,” Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al Khater said.
Al Khater said the airport’s round-the-clock operations would also give exporters in New South Wales a direct cargo route to customers in the Gulf.
Qatar Airways becomes the fifth foreign carrier to commit to the new airport, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. The newspaper said the Australian government approved seven weekly Qatar Airways services through the airport in May, and that the airport drew on an A$16 million launch fund backed by the airport and the New South Wales government to support the route.
Western Sydney International Airport Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey said the airport’s customers would have access to more than 250 destinations within its first 14 months of operation.
The route will complement the Qatar Airways partnership with Virgin Australia, the Gulf carrier said.
