Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to Visit Ottawa as Canada Seeks to Build on UAE’s C$70 Billion Investment Pledge

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, will visit Ottawa on October 26 and 27, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Sunday.

The talks will focus on expanding the partnership into defense and security, energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, space, communications technology, quantum computing and artificial intelligence, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The visit follows a pledge by the UAE in November 2025 to invest 70 billion Canadian dollars (US$50 billion) in Canada.

That commitment was announced during Carney’s visit to Abu Dhabi, where he and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.

The investment agreement entered into force in May 2026.

The two countries concluded negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in July 2026, after 47 days of talks.

Canada’s two-way merchandise trade with the UAE was worth C$3.5 billion in 2025, according to the Canadian government.

Canadian exports to the UAE accounted for C$2.8 billion of that total, while imports from the UAE were C$679.1 million.

Canadian merchandise exports to the UAE grew by more than 10% last year.

More than 150 Canadian companies operate in the UAE, and about 60,000 Canadians live and work there, the government said.

“The UAE’s $70 billion investment commitment is a strong vote of confidence in our economy,” said Maninder Sidhu, Canada’s Minister of International Trade.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office said Sheikh Khaled will discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in priority sectors with Carney.
