Qatar Fishing Exhibition at Old Doha Port Celebrates Maritime Heritage

Qatar’s first-ever fishing exhibition opened at Old Doha Port, highlighting the country’s maritime heritage. The four-day event, running until April 12 at Mina Park, features over 30 exhibitors and 150 brands. It offers fishing enthusiasts, families, and anyone interested in Qatar’s seafaring history an exciting experience.

Mohammed Abdullah al-Mulla, CEO of Old Doha Port, emphasized the importance of the exhibition, which showcases both traditional maritime crafts and modern innovations in the marine sector. He noted that the timing of the event aligns with the start of the regional fishing season, offering visitors a comprehensive view of the fishing industry’s past and present.

“We want this exhibition to become an annual destination for sea lovers, providing them with the supplies and equipment they need for the season,” al-Mulla said. He added that the exhibition also aims to celebrate Qatar’s maritime culture, showcasing the deep-rooted connection to the sea, which is integral to the country’s heritage.

The event goes beyond just showcasing commercial products. It is also a cultural experience, featuring live performances, interactive activities, and exciting competitions. One of the highlights is a marine fishing contest with prizes to be awarded on the final day. Visitors can also enjoy a culinary journey, sampling traditional Qatari dishes.

Al-Mulla stressed the exhibition’s role in supporting marine sports and enriching Qatar’s event scene. The event is open daily from 4pm-9pm and offers a space for community engagement at the transformed Old Doha Port. Organizers hope the exhibition will become a permanent fixture on Qatar’s event calendar, much like the Qatar International Boat Show.

Traditional craftsmen demonstrate skills like net making and rope weaving, giving visitors a glimpse of maritime traditions from past generations. A traditional folk maritime band, hands-on activities, and storytelling immerse visitors, especially children, in Qatar’s maritime history.

Al-Mulla also highlighted the exhibition’s commitment to supporting local businesses. Dedicated spaces for food and beverage vendors offer them valuable exposure and opportunities to connect with potential customers.
