ASMED Pushes for Better Banking Services for SMEs in Oman

Oman’s Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) held a key dialogue session in Muscat. The goal was simple: improve banking services for SMEs across the Sultanate.

In addition, this event focused on supporting small and medium businesses through better policies, easier licensing, and stronger partnerships. Organizers stressed that banking services for SME must improve to boost growth and success.

Importantly, one of the main goals was to build bridges between banks and SMEs. Officials said real partnerships could help solve these small businesses’ many challenges.

During the session, banking services for SMEs speakers discussed tools that help the SME sector grow. These included training programmes, financial incentives, incubators, and business accelerators. Better access to finance was also a top concern.

Moreover, By the end of March 2025, ASMED had registered 149,219 SMEs from across Oman. Out of these, 27,611 entrepreneurs had received an official Entrepreneurship Card.

Notably, ASMED’s leadership believes these businesses are vital for Oman’s economy. However, they need easier access to banking services for SMEs to survive and thrive.

This session was part of a wider programme by ASMED. The programme aims to boost cooperation between the public and private sectors. It also helps SMEs overcome obstacles and grow sustainably.

Additionally, Halima Rashid Al Zar’ee, ASMED’s Chairperson, led the event. Rashid Zayid Al Ghassani, Deputy Chairman at the Central Bank of Oman, also attended. Many government officials and SME representatives joined the talks.

Participants shared views and discussed real-world solutions. They agreed that more support, better finance options, and strong partnerships could improve banking services for SMEs.

Interestingly, ASMED plans to host more events like this. These sessions will explore what banks and businesses can do together to create better services and stronger results.

Looking ahead, improving banking services for SMEs remains a national priority. With ongoing dialogue, Oman hopes to create a stronger environment for entrepreneurship.
