Brookfield has opened an office in Doha focused on its global credit investment platform, which includes Oaktree, as it seeks to expand its investments in Qatar and the wider Gulf, the Qatar News Agency reported on Sunday.
The firm manages about $20 billion in assets across the Gulf Cooperation Council, spanning private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure, according to the company’s statement. Globally, it manages more than $1 trillion.

The office builds on Brookfield’s existing investments in Qatar. These include a planned $20 billion joint venture with Qai, the artificial intelligence company owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, to develop AI infrastructure in Qatar and selected international markets.
Jad Ellawn, Brookfield’s managing partner and regional head of the Middle East, said Qatar had become a significant global investment hub. He cited the firm’s partnerships with local institutions, including the Qatar Investment Authority.
Ellawn described the Doha office as a natural step in Brookfield’s regional expansion and said the firm expects to deepen its engagement in Qatar over the long term.
The office follows Brookfield’s approach of setting up a local presence in markets where it deploys capital, according to the statement. The firm plans to work with partners to identify investment opportunities in Qatar.
