The Sunni Endowments Council has signed a landmark agreement to launch a mosque construction project in Muharraq Governorate. The Mosque Construction Project highlights Bahrain’s commitment to social development and community services.
Shaikh Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed bin Futtais Al Hajri, Chairman of the Sunni Endowments Council, officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the Aisha Ahmed Saqr Al Marri Mosque. He emphasized that mosques play a vital role in fostering balanced and responsible citizens. They also support social, educational, and religious activities that strengthen community cohesion.
He praised the guidance and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government under His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. According to Shaikh Dr. Al Hajri, their continued support facilitates mosque construction and ensures charitable projects overcome challenges effectively.
He further highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions and private individuals. Such joint efforts reinforce community partnership and encourage charitable contributions, hallmarks of Bahrain’s development philosophy. The mosque project demonstrates how collective engagement drives sustainable social infrastructure.
The planned mosque will span 1,729.8 square metres and include separate prayer halls for men and women. In addition, the facility will feature health services, restrooms, and accommodation for the imam and the muathin. These amenities aim to meet the spiritual and practical needs of worshippers while supporting community activities.
Additionally, the project incorporates several waqf-affiliated commercial shops. These shops will generate income to maintain the mosque, ensuring long-term sustainability and financial independence for the project. Experts note that integrating commercial elements into religious projects enhances operational efficiency while strengthening community engagement.
The Mosque Construction Project aligns with Bahrain’s broader strategy to support charitable institutions, promote educational opportunities, and improve local infrastructure. Authorities say this model will serve as a template for future development initiatives across the Kingdom.
Shaikh Dr. Al Hajri concluded that the mosque will not only be a place of worship but also a hub for learning, social interaction, and charitable outreach. The project reinforces Bahrain’s commitment to fostering cohesive, empowered, and responsible communities.
