India-Saudi Water Cooperation Expands with New Resource Management Agreement

India-Saudi Water Cooperation has entered a new stage after both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen collaboration in water resources. The agreement supports sustainable water management while promoting the exchange of expertise between the two nations. As a result, both governments aim to improve water security and strengthen their strategic partnership.

The agreement was signed during Saudi Water Week in Jeddah. India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Suhel Khan, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen AlFadley, signed the memorandum on behalf of their governments.

The new partnership focuses on improving cooperation in water resource planning. In addition, both countries will exchange knowledge on sustainable water management, irrigation systems, and related technical fields. Therefore, the agreement aims to strengthen long-term water sustainability.

Officials said the memorandum will also support capacity building. Experts from both countries will work together to share technical knowledge, develop professional skills, and promote best practices. Consequently, institutions can improve water management through closer collaboration.

Furthermore, the agreement strengthens the growing strategic relationship between India and Saudi Arabia. Water security has become an important priority as countries seek sustainable solutions to increasing environmental challenges.

Saudi Water Week provided the platform for the signing ceremony. The event brings together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and water experts to discuss innovation and sustainable water management. Therefore, the agreement reflects wider international cooperation in the sector.

India’s Consul General Fahad Suri also attended the signing ceremony. Officials described the agreement as another milestone in expanding cooperation across environmental and infrastructure sectors.

Meanwhile, diplomatic engagement between the two countries continued beyond the water agreement. India’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Abu Mathen George, and Counsellor Y. Sabir met Ahmed Abdulaziz Bin Salamah, Head of the Expatriate Affairs Division at Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation on issues affecting the Indian community living in Saudi Arabia. In addition, officials explored mechanisms to improve consular services and community welfare.

The discussions highlighted the importance of supporting expatriate communities while strengthening bilateral cooperation. Consequently, both governments continue working to improve services for Indian nationals residing in the Kingdom.

Earlier, Ambassador Suhel Khan also met Riyadh Governor Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The meeting focused on the continued expansion of relations between India and Saudi Arabia across multiple sectors.

The India Saudi Water Cooperation agreement reflects growing collaboration beyond trade and investment. Both countries continue expanding partnerships in environmental management, infrastructure, and sustainable development. As cooperation grows, additional joint initiatives may emerge in the future.

Overall, the new memorandum strengthens bilateral relations while supporting sustainable water resource management. The agreement also demonstrates the shared commitment of India and Saudi Arabia to addressing future environmental challenges through international cooperation.
