Oman Expands Four Industrial Cities to Attract Investors and Boost Economic Growth

Oman Industrial Expansion is accelerating as the country develops four new industrial cities. The projects aim to attract investors and strengthen manufacturing.

The government wants to increase industrial activity while creating more opportunities for local businesses. Furthermore, the projects could support new employment across several regions.

The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, known as Madayn, oversees the developments. The organization manages industrial zones and supports investment across Oman.

The four projects will cover millions of square metres across different parts of the country. They will also provide infrastructure designed for industrial companies.

The largest development will take place in Al Suwaiq. The industrial city will cover approximately 12.2 million square metres.

Meanwhile, Al Mudhaibi will receive an industrial city covering around nine million square metres. Thumrait will account for another four million square metres.

Madha will host the smallest project, covering approximately 360,000 square metres. Despite its smaller size, the development will support local economic activity.

The projects will offer integrated industrial facilities for companies seeking to establish operations in Oman. Moreover, they will include modern infrastructure and logistics services.

Khalid Sulaiman Al Salehi, Madayn’s director-general for marketing and commercial affairs, highlighted the projects’ investment potential. He said the developments would create integrated industrial environments.

However, officials have not disclosed the total cost of developing the four industrial cities. The projects nevertheless represent another step in Oman’s economic diversification strategy.

Madayn currently manages 14 industrial cities across the country. These locations have attracted significant investment from industrial companies over recent years.

By 2024, cumulative investment across Madayn’s industrial cities reached approximately OMR7.7 billion. That figure equals roughly $20 billion based on current currency values.

More than 1,800 industrial projects operate across these industrial locations. Consequently, the new developments could expand Oman’s industrial base further.

The government also wants to encourage greater participation from international investors. At the same time, officials want to support domestic companies and smaller businesses.

Small and medium-sized enterprises could benefit from improved infrastructure and access to industrial facilities. Additionally, new projects could create opportunities across transportation, logistics, manufacturing, and related services.

Oman continues to pursue economic diversification beyond its traditional dependence on hydrocarbons. Industrial development remains an important part of that broader strategy.

The country has also recorded stronger foreign investment activity recently. Foreign direct investment reached approximately OMR32.2 billion by the end of March.

That figure represented an increase of around OMR800 million compared with the previous year. Furthermore, Oman attracted approximately $2.6 billion in foreign investment during the first quarter.

These figures indicate continued investor interest despite challenging regional conditions. Therefore, expanding industrial infrastructure could help Oman capture additional investment.

The government also expects stronger economic growth this year. The International Monetary Fund forecasts real economic growth of 3.5 percent in 2026.

That projection compares with growth of 2.4 percent during 2025. Consequently, stronger activity could provide additional momentum for industrial investment.

Oman Industrial Expansion could support that growth by increasing production capacity and attracting new companies. It could also strengthen connections between industrial centers and logistics networks.

Better infrastructure can reduce operating challenges for manufacturers and exporters. At the same time, industrial clusters can encourage companies to develop supply-chain partnerships.

The four new cities could therefore contribute to wider regional development. They will spread industrial activity across several areas instead of concentrating investment in major centers.

Moreover, new industrial facilities could encourage businesses to establish operations closer to available resources. This approach may also create employment opportunities outside Oman’s largest urban areas.

The government’s strategy reflects its broader efforts to develop a more diverse economy. Manufacturing, logistics, and investment remain important pillars within that strategy.

Oman Industrial Expansion will likely remain closely linked to the country’s investment ambitions. The success of these projects will depend on attracting companies and completing infrastructure efficiently.

As development progresses, investors will assess available facilities, logistics connections, and commercial opportunities. They will also consider Oman’s position within regional and international supply chains.

Overall, the four industrial cities represent a significant expansion of Oman’s industrial infrastructure. The projects could attract capital while supporting manufacturing and employment.

At the same time, stronger industrial activity could help diversify government revenues and strengthen private-sector growth. Oman therefore continues to position industrial development as a key economic priority.
