Prince Alwaleed Expands Lucid Investment with New $154 Million Share Purchase

Lucid Investment gained fresh attention after Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud increased his exposure to the American electric vehicle manufacturer. The latest purchase strengthens Saudi investment in the company as Lucid continues expanding production and building its long-term manufacturing strategy.

A recent regulatory filing showed that Prince Alwaleed acquired a 5 percent ownership stake in Lucid. The purchase included more than 19.5 million shares in the electric vehicle company.

Based on the latest closing market price, the newly acquired stake carries a value of approximately $154 million. The investment further increases Saudi ownership in the California-based automaker.

Saudi Arabia already holds a significant position in Lucid through the Public Investment Fund. The sovereign wealth fund has remained the company’s largest shareholder since becoming the majority owner in 2019.

The Public Investment Fund has steadily expanded its financial commitment over recent years. In 2024, the fund invested an additional $2.5 billion into Lucid. That investment increased its total commitment to approximately $8 billion while maintaining a 58.4 percent ownership stake.

Earlier this year, Ayar Third Investment Company also strengthened Lucid’s financial position. The investment firm, which operates under the Public Investment Fund, contributed another $550 million to support the company’s operations.

The additional capital aims to strengthen Lucid’s balance sheet while increasing vehicle production capacity. Company executives continue focusing on expanding manufacturing as global demand for electric vehicles grows.

Investors responded positively following the latest ownership disclosure. Lucid shares climbed 22 percent during Tuesday’s trading session after news of the investment became public.

Despite the sharp daily gain, the company’s shares remain lower for the year. The stock has declined by nearly 30 percent since the beginning of 2026.

Lucid’s share price has also fallen significantly from its previous peak. In 2021, the stock traded near $600 before declining to under $8 by late July 2026.

Earlier this month, the company addressed speculation surrounding its financial future. Management rejected reports suggesting bankruptcy or plans to take the company private.

Company leadership described those reports as inaccurate. Executives confirmed that neither bankruptcy nor a privatization plan remains under consideration.

Management explained that outside advisors continue supporting operational improvements. However, those advisors are not working on any private ownership transaction.

The company’s leadership remains focused on improving financial performance and expanding manufacturing capabilities. Executives continue implementing long-term growth strategies designed to strengthen operations.

Lucid also expects production to increase steadily during the coming years. Manufacturing output should continue rising throughout 2027 and 2028 before reaching full planned capacity in 2029.

At full production, the company expects to manufacture up to 150,000 vehicles annually. This milestone represents an important step in Lucid’s long-term expansion strategy.

The company also plans to begin full-scale vehicle manufacturing in Saudi Arabia during 2026. The new production facility supports the Kingdom’s strategy to expand advanced manufacturing industries and develop its electric vehicle sector.

Prince Alwaleed remains one of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent investors. His investment portfolio includes major holdings across technology, finance, and international companies.

His latest purchase highlights continued confidence in Lucid’s long-term prospects despite recent share price volatility. Investors will continue monitoring production growth, financial performance, and global electric vehicle demand.

Looking ahead, Lucid Investment reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to expanding its presence in the electric vehicle industry. Continued financial support and planned manufacturing expansion could strengthen the company’s position in the increasingly competitive global EV market. Lucid Investment also demonstrates investor confidence in the company’s long-term growth strategy.
