Dubai Islands will receive a major waterfront upgrade as Nakheel expands its coastal areas. The project will upgrade around 3km of western shoreline. It will also add 320 metres of new beach frontage near Bay Villas. The work will further strengthen the waterfront setting across Island B.
Nakheel awarded Mar Marine & Building Contracting L.L.C. a contract for marine and beach works. The project covers Island B within the wider Dubai Islands development. Construction teams expect to complete the work during the fourth quarter of 2027. Meanwhile, other infrastructure projects continue across the island.
The project includes several major improvements along Island B’s western shoreline. First, workers will construct new breakwaters to strengthen coastal protection. They will also remove existing rock revetments from parts of the shoreline. In addition, the project will create a new beach near Bay Villas.
Workers will also refurbish several existing beach areas across the western side of Island B. Furthermore, they will complete remedial works across various coastal sections. These improvements will connect the new beach with upgraded existing areas. As a result, the project will create a more consistent waterfront environment.
The beachfront works will support Bay Villas, a residential community featuring 636 villas and townhouses. Nakheel awarded Fibrex Contracting L.L.C. a Dh2.6 billion contract for the development. The marine works will improve the coastal environment surrounding the residential community. Therefore, the projects will progress alongside each other.
Nakheel also awarded another major contract for Island B earlier this year. Al Nasr Contracting Company received a Dh527 million contract in April 2026. The agreement covers primary infrastructure and utilities works across the island. Together, these projects will support the wider development plan.
Dubai Holding Real Estate CEO Khalid Al Malik said the upgrades will support the wider masterplan. He said the project will create a high-quality coastal environment around the development. The improved shoreline will also complement the island’s residential and leisure facilities. Meanwhile, construction will continue as other parts of the masterplan advance.
Mar Marine General Manager Nabil Abou Rjaili highlighted the project’s marine engineering requirements. He said the work combines new breakwaters, beach formation and coastal refurbishment. The contractor will coordinate these elements throughout the construction process. This approach will help deliver the next stage of the island’s waterfront.
Dubai Islands stretches across 18.6 kilometres and includes five artificial islands. The development also connects with Dubai’s historic Deira coastline. Its masterplan targets more than 230,000 residents across approximately 62,000 homes. It also includes more than 11,000 hotel rooms and over 4,000 branded residences.
The latest works will further strengthen Dubai Islands as a major waterfront destination. Moreover, the new beach will add another leisure feature for future residents. The upgraded shoreline will also improve the setting around Bay Villas. Dubai Islands is expected to complete the waterfront improvements by the end of 2027.
