Phoenix Aviation to Build Wide-Body Aircraft Maintenance Center at Dubai South, Due in First Quarter of 2029

Phoenix Aviation will build a 35,000-square-meter hangar for wide-body aircraft at Dubai South after signing an agreement for a new airside plot at the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub, the developer said on Friday.

The facility will handle wide-body aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, cabin modifications and completions, and cargo conversions, according to a Dubai South statement.

It is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2029. The companies did not disclose the value of the investment.

The agreement was signed at the MRO Europe aviation maintenance show in the presence of Nabil Alkindi, group chief executive officer of Dubai South, and Julian Ehrhard, president and chief executive officer of Phoenix Aviation.

Room for three wide-body jets

The hangar is designed to hold three wide-body aircraft, including types such as the Boeing 777X and the Airbus A350.

The site will also include an 18,000-square-meter delivery center for aircraft handovers and storage, 15,000 square meters of workshops and stores, and 3,000 square meters of offices.

It will be Phoenix Aviation’s second hangar at the hub, alongside its existing maintenance hangar, which can handle the Airbus A380.

Dubai South said the expansion would add capacity for airlines from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

“Phoenix Aviation’s expansion reflects confidence in Dubai South’s long-term development plans and the offering at Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub,” Alkindi said.

Gilles Negre, founder and chairman of Phoenix Aviation, said the project was designed to meet growing demand for wide-body aircraft services and to reduce the time aircraft spend on the ground.
