Cargo volumes at Tahnoun International Airport in Al Ain rose 63% year on year to 2,335 tonnes in the third quarter of 2026, Abu Dhabi Airports said on Friday.
Aircraft movements at the airport rose 17.1% to 14,724 in the quarter, according to figures released by the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

The airport, formerly known as Al Ain International Airport, was recently renamed in honor of the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan.
Year-to-date cargo more than doubles
In the first nine months of 2026, the airport handled 7,335 tonnes of cargo, up 110.4% from the same period of 2025.
Aircraft movements reached 48,558 over the same period, an increase of 17.9%.
Abu Dhabi Airports expects scheduled passenger frequencies through the airport to reach 16 flights a week by the end of November, a 60% increase. The operator did not give passenger numbers for the quarter.
Rail link to Sohar
The airport is about a 1.5-hour drive from Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. It has 5 million square meters of serviced free zone plots nearby, the operator said.
Hafeet Rail, due for completion in 2028, is expected to connect the airport to the Etihad Rail network in the UAE and to Sohar Port in Oman.
Ahmed Juma Al Shamisi, chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said the growth reflected the airport’s location and its role in connecting Al Ain to the UAE and the wider Gulf region.
“With convenient access to the country’s major aviation hubs and ports, and Hafeet Rail set to link the airport to the Etihad Rail network and Sohar Port, AAN is well positioned to support the continued growth of trade and travel through Al Ain,” he said.
