UAE Approves Dh292.5 billion Federal Budget for 2027–2029 to Support Education, Healthcare and Social Development

The UAE Budget for 2027 to 2029 totals Dh292.5 billion, as the government outlines its spending priorities for the coming years. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the approval on Monday. The three-year allocation represents an increase of 8.3% compared with the previous budget cycle. Meanwhile, the government continues to prioritise public services, social development and citizens’ quality of life.

Sheikh Mohammed, who serves as UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted several key areas. These include education, healthcare, housing and social services. He also emphasised the importance of stability and improving living standards for citizens. Consequently, the budget reflects the government’s continued focus on public welfare and national development.

The federal government has also approved Dh90.1 billion for 2027 alone. This allocation forms the first year of the wider three-year financial plan. It provides a framework for federal spending across several major sectors. Furthermore, the breakdown shows how authorities intend to distribute resources among public services, government operations and infrastructure.

Social development and pensions represent the largest share of the 2027 budget. The government allocated Dh34.6 billion to this area, accounting for 38.4% of total spending. This funding supports a major part of the federal government’s social commitments. In addition, it highlights the importance of pensions and public welfare within national spending plans.

Government affairs receive Dh29.1 billion, equivalent to 32.3% of the annual budget. These funds cover a substantial portion of federal government operations. Meanwhile, federal expenses account for Dh17.8 billion, or 19.7% of the total. Together, these allocations demonstrate the scale of resources required to maintain government services and operations.

The budget also assigns Dh5.6 billion to financial assets and investments. This represents 6.2% of planned spending for 2027. Additionally, infrastructure and economic resources receive Dh3 billion, equal to 3.4% of the total. These allocations support the government’s wider financial and development priorities, although the announcement did not detail individual projects.

The UAE Budget comes as the country continues to plan its public finances across multiple years. A multi-year framework helps authorities organise expenditure and set priorities beyond a single financial year. Moreover, the 8.3% increase signals a larger overall allocation than the previous three-year cycle. However, the total budget alone does not indicate how individual programmes will perform.

Dubai also announced a major budget cycle for 2026 to 2028 last year. That plan projected Dh302.7 billion in expenditure and Dh329.2 billion in revenue. It also anticipated an operating surplus of 5%. However, Dubai’s budget covers a different government level and period from the federal plan.

Overall, the newly approved UAE Budget sets out the federal government’s spending direction through 2029. Social development, pensions and government operations account for most of the 2027 allocation. At the same time, investments and infrastructure remain part of the financial framework. The government’s stated priorities continue to centre on public services, stability and citizens’ quality of life.
