EGA Opens UAE’s Largest Aluminium Recycling Plant to Expand Low-Carbon Production and Support Circular Economy Goals

Aluminium Recycling Plant marks a major step for the UAE’s green economy. Emirates Global Aluminium has opened a new recycling facility in Al Taweelah. The project supports sustainability goals and expands local recycling capabilities.

The new facility can process around 185,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap each year. It transforms used aluminium into new products for different industries. Therefore, the plant strengthens the country’s focus on a circular economy.

The UAE has worked to increase local recycling efforts. Previously, many aluminium materials left the country for overseas processing. However, the new facility allows more recycling operations to happen locally.

EGA said the plant will support low-carbon aluminium production. The company uses recycled materials to create aluminium products. These products include billets and T-bars for customers worldwide.

Furthermore, the facility supports EGA’s recycled aluminium brands. The company produces several products that combine recycled metal with cleaner energy sources. As a result, these products help reduce environmental impact.

The construction process required millions of working hours. Moreover, the project team completed the work without major safety incidents. The development used thousands of tonnes of steel and large amounts of concrete.

The facility started producing recycled aluminium earlier in 2026. However, some commissioning activities faced delays after a security incident affected the industrial area. The company later restarted operations and continued production plans.

The plant is expected to reach full production levels within months. This depends on the availability of aluminium scrap supplies. Meanwhile, EGA continues building its recycling network across global markets.

Government officials attended the opening ceremony. They included climate and environmental leaders from the UAE. Additionally, EGA executives and board members joined the event.

Officials highlighted the importance of recycling for the nation’s future. They explained that aluminium can support sustainable production. Also, recycled aluminium requires significantly less energy than new aluminium production.

EGA leadership described the facility as an important milestone. The company aims to develop a stronger global recycling business. Through this strategy, EGA plans to increase its presence in international markets.

The Aluminium Recycling Plant forms part of EGA’s wider expansion plans. The company continues investing in recycling facilities outside the UAE. Furthermore, it is growing operations in Europe and the United States.

EGA has already expanded several overseas recycling projects. The company continues improving capacity at existing facilities. In addition, it plans further growth through new investments and acquisitions.

The UAE facility represents a significant change in aluminium production. It reduces dependence on exported scrap processing. Therefore, it supports local industries and strengthens environmental efforts.

The Aluminium Recycling Plant also reflects the UAE’s long-term sustainability vision. The project combines innovation, economic growth, and resource efficiency. Ultimately, it supports a cleaner future for the region.
