Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts worth AED3 billion for four projects under the third phase of its Tasreef stormwater drainage program, the Government of Dubai Media Office said on Sunday.
The projects will build and extend about 100 kilometers of main stormwater drainage lines, with diameters of up to 3 meters, across an area of nearly 100 square kilometers.

They cover Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa, Al Manara, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Al Wasl, Za’abeel, Al Bada’a, Al Satwa and Al Marmoom, which will be connected to the municipality’s main drainage network.
The largest package, in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, includes about 42 kilometers of main drainage lines. It will serve areas from Umm Suqeim 1, 2 and 3 and Umm Al Sheif to Jumeirah 3, Al Safa 1 and 2, and Al Manara along the Dubai Water Canal.
A second project, between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, will add 14 kilometers of main lines serving Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1, 3 and 4 and Al Barsha 1.
A third project along Al Wasl Road will lay 21 kilometers of main and secondary lines for areas east of the Dubai Water Canal, including Za’abeel 2, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 and 2, Al Bada’a, Al Satwa and Dubai World Trade Centre. The fourth project will install 23 kilometers of drainage infrastructure in Al Marmoom.
The media office did not disclose the contractors or the value of individual contracts.
Tasreef is being carried out at a total cost of AED30 billion. Dubai Municipality says the program will raise stormwater drainage capacity by 700% and cut the cost of building, operating and maintaining pumping stations by 20%.
“Dubai Municipality continues to implement the phases of the ‘Tasreef’ Programme, one of Dubai’s largest strategic infrastructure projects,” Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, director general of Dubai Municipality, said in the statement.
Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, chief executive of the municipality’s Waste and Sewerage Agency, said the third phase serves areas that represent “vital arteries across the emirate.”
