Oman Limestone projects continue expanding as the country increases investment in its mining sector. Oman Limestone developments gained fresh momentum after authorities invited local companies to compete for two new mining sites in Salalah.
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals announced the new bidding process to strengthen domestic supplies of essential construction materials. Officials expect the initiative to support future infrastructure projects while encouraging greater participation from local businesses.
The two mining sites are located in Salalah, a major coastal city overlooking the Arabian Sea. The region continues attracting attention because of its valuable mineral resources and growing industrial potential.
Authorities opened the bidding process on July 19. Interested companies may submit their proposals until October 18. Officials encouraged qualified Omani businesses to participate before the deadline expires.
Only companies registered in Oman may compete for the mining licenses. Furthermore, authorities limited participation to domestic firms to encourage local investment and strengthen national industrial capabilities.
Production from both limestone sites will serve only the domestic market. Companies receiving mining licenses cannot export limestone extracted from these locations. Instead, all production will remain available for construction projects and industrial activities within Oman.
Officials also established clear rules for the bidding process. Companies may submit proposals for both mining sites. However, authorities will award only one site to each successful bidder. This approach encourages wider participation while creating opportunities for multiple local businesses.
The latest tender reflects Oman’s broader strategy to expand its mining industry. Government officials continue introducing new initiatives designed to increase mineral production and support economic diversification.
Mining has become an important pillar of the country’s long-term development plans. As Oman works to reduce dependence on oil revenues, authorities continue investing in sectors capable of generating sustainable economic growth.
Last year, the country’s mining sector attracted investments worth approximately OMR350 million. Those projects supported exploration, production, and industrial development while increasing confidence in the sector’s future.
Earlier this year, Oman also invited international investors to participate in five major mining concession opportunities valued at approximately $1.5 billion. These projects demonstrated the country’s commitment to attracting both domestic and foreign investment into mineral development.
In late 2025, Minerals Development Oman signed a concession agreement valued at approximately $530 million with India’s JSW Group. The agreement covers gypsum and limestone mining operations in the Shuwaymiyah area within the Dhofar region.
That investment represented another significant milestone for Oman’s expanding mineral industry. It also highlighted growing international interest in the country’s natural resources and long-term mining potential.
Meanwhile, Minerals Development Oman continues supporting additional infrastructure projects. Earlier this year, the company launched a tender for the design and construction of a dedicated minerals port in Al Shuwaymiyah.
The planned port will improve transportation efficiency while supporting future mining exports from other approved projects. Modern logistics infrastructure remains essential as the sector continues expanding across the country.
Industry experts believe limestone demand will remain strong because of ongoing residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments. Reliable domestic supplies also help reduce dependence on imported construction materials.
The latest bidding round demonstrates the government’s continued focus on strengthening local industries while creating new investment opportunities. Encouraging domestic participation also helps develop technical expertise and supports long-term employment growth.
Looking ahead, Oman Limestone investments are expected to play an increasingly important role in economic diversification. As additional mining projects move forward, the sector will continue supporting industrial expansion, infrastructure development, and sustainable economic growth throughout the Sultanate.
Overall, the Oman Limestone initiative highlights the country’s commitment to expanding its mining industry and strengthening domestic construction material supplies. By encouraging local investment and developing new mineral resources, Oman aims to support infrastructure growth, diversify its economy, and create long-term opportunities for national businesses.
