The initiative helps residents compare the prices of everyday products across leading retailers. It also supports informed shopping decisions while improving transparency throughout the country’s retail market.
The Ministry announced that it will continue adding more retailers and products to the platform. As a result, shoppers will gain access to even broader price comparisons across the UAE. Officials said the expansion supports ongoing efforts to monitor essential goods and improve market oversight.
The platform launched in April during a period of regional uncertainty. Since then, it has attracted around 143,720 visitors between mid-April and July. Moreover, the website recorded an average of more than 1,451 visits each day, highlighting growing public interest in price transparency.
Officials explained that the platform strengthens market supervision by providing accurate pricing information and detailed market analysis. Consequently, inspectors can identify unusual price movements more quickly and improve their monitoring efforts.
In addition, the digital system complements routine market inspections. It provides reliable data and performance indicators that help authorities respond faster to changing market conditions. This approach improves decision-making while supporting fair pricing practices across retail outlets.
The Essential Goods Prices Platform allows shoppers to compare prices for basic food products sold at different supermarkets. Consumers can easily identify both the lowest and highest prices before making purchases.
For example, rice currently appears with prices ranging from Dh4.20 at one retailer to Dh16 at another. Such comparisons help shoppers choose products that fit their budgets while encouraging competitive pricing among retailers.
The platform covers several essential product categories. These include rice, cooking oil, wheat, dairy products, sugar, eggs, bread, legumes, and chicken. Therefore, families can compare the prices of many everyday necessities in one place.
At present, the system includes pricing information for 8,343 products. These products come from 13 major retail chains operating through 525 outlets across the UAE. The Ministry plans to increase both product listings and participating retailers over time.
Officials said the country continues to maintain strong supplies of essential goods. Retailers also provide consumers with a wide range of choices and alternatives across different price levels. This broad availability supports stable shopping conditions throughout the local market.
Safeya Al Safi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Control and Commercial Governance Sector, said consumer protection remains a national priority. She noted that authorities continue working to ensure stable supplies while supporting fair market practices.
She also explained that the platform offers an advanced digital solution for monitoring market activity. It tracks price changes, analyzes trends, and helps officials identify developments that require further review.
Furthermore, the system enables continuous observation of retail market conditions. Officials can quickly examine pricing patterns and respond efficiently whenever unusual movements appear. This capability strengthens oversight while improving the Ministry’s response to changing market dynamics.
As the platform grows, more consumers will benefit from wider price comparisons across additional retailers. UAE grocery prices will remain easier to monitor, allowing shoppers to make smarter purchasing decisions while supporting transparency across the country’s retail sector. Through continued expansion and regular updates, UAE grocery prices will stay at the center of the Ministry’s efforts to promote fair competition and protect consumers.
